MICHIGAN MAJORS

 

Nick Wissinger of Utica won his 10th Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 299-236 win over Nunzio Marino of Livonia at Galaxy Lanes in Grand Blanc.

 

Wissinger qualified second for the stepladder finals and beat Rick Vittone of Tecumseh 236-225 en route to the championship match. He took home the top prize of $1,000.

 

Marino was the top qualifier with a six-game total of 1,584. He settled for $600.

 

Vittone reached the semi-finals with victories over Corey Miller of Grand Blanc 246-228 and Chris Brady of Flint 297-234. Vittone earned $500, Brady $400 and Miller $300.

 

“My carry was phenomenal all day therefore I can complain,” said runner-up Marino.

 

Wissinger’s only comment was, “This was fun”.

 

There were seven 300 games recorded including ones by Wissinger and Marino in qualifying.

 

Jeff Grego of Clarkston paced the Oakland County contingent by cashing for $250. Others were D.J. Hochstein of White Lake ($140) and Rob Raymond of Novi ($120).

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION

 

Jim Lauricella of Sterling Heights won the National Senior Bowling Association event at Merribowl Lanes in Livonia with a 217-194 win over Mike Lucente of Warren . Lauricella took home $1,000, while Lucente received $500.

 

Lauricella qualified 20th in the field of 80 and proceeded to beat Chuck Bork of Bay City 266-158, Larry Best of Brownstown Township 213-195, Mike Chapman of Ypsilanti 191-190 and Dick Selgo of Archbold , Ohio 226-225 to move into the championship match.

 

Lucente was the top qualifier and had the top game of 298. In match play he defeated Gordy Woods of Eastpointe 201-175, Steve Kazmierczuk of Waterford Township 270-241 and Pete Laade of St. Clair Shores 224-193 to advance.

 

Local cashers were Kazmierczuk ($260), Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield ($125), Len Kersten of Clarkston ($100), Ed Austreng of Waterford Township ($100), Jeff Suma of Auburn Hills ($100) and Bill Haynes of Rochester Hills ($90).
