OTTMAN TO BE HONORED

The late Dan Ottman has been named the winner of the United States Bowling Congress Joyce Deitch Trailblazer Award.

Ottman made his mark as a coach, administrator, historian and passion for the game. He especially had a passion for the development of youth bowlers as founder of the Michigan Junior Masters Association. He passed away suddenly in July 2004 at the age of 47 while preparing for a MJMA event in Belleville .

“I was surprised because I’m sure there were many worthy people,” said Mark Hurttgam of New Baltimore, who nominated Ottman. “More than anything, it was his dedication that made him special. He was so involved in so many different facets of bowling – youth, PBA, Sport Bowling – and he always came up with a lot of ideas.”

Ottman was also a very accomplished bowler in his own right captaining two American Bowling Congress (ABC) teams to titles. His 1997 team won the ABC team event and in 1999 captured the ABC team all-events crown.

The award will be presented at the USBC Convention in Nashville in late March 2007.
