CAN-AM BAKER DOUBLES

 

Fred Bauss of Eastpointe and Kerry Kreft of Warren prevailed in the Can-Am Baker Doubles at Bonanza Lanes in Warren with a 226-200 triumph over Scott Christie of Southgate and Mike Calhoun of Wyandotte .

 

The Bauss/Kreft team took home the top prize of $1,400 after surviving the last qualifying spot with an eight-game total of 1,736. In the cutdown rounds they shot games of 247, 237, 213, 237, 234 and 255 to advance to the championship match. They averaged 225.7 for the day and 235.6 in match play.

 

The Christie/Calhoun duo cashed for $800. They qualified seventh with 1,793 and bowled games of 248,198, 224, 227, 200 and 192 to advance.

 

David Boyd of Lakeworth , Fla. and Justin Neiman of Warren were the top qualifiers with 1,871.

 

Oakland County was represented by Anthony Cattenucci of Oxford and J.C. Campbell of Macomb splitting $200; Jason Battishill of Waterford Township and Travis Franz of Waterford Township for $140; and Kurt Peters of Clarkston and Kyle Rogers of Waterford Township $120.

FIRST HALF 2006 REVIEW

 

January – The organizational meeting of the Metro Detroit USBC Association resulted in Libbi Fletcher being elected president along with the balance of the board and the bylaws of the new association were approved to be effective May 1, 2006. Brian Thompson of Flat Rock led qualifying in the Greater Detroit Bowling Association Masters Tournament at Taylor Lanes. David Ewald of Macomb won the event with Chris Sand of Chesterfield finishing second.

 

February – Mitch Jabczenski of Novi led qualifying in the GDBA Senior Masters at Indian Lanes in Wyandotte . Roy Biggs of Canton won and John Bennett of Clarkston finished second. Walled Lake Western paced the boys division and Waterford Kettering the girls division in the Northern Lakes Division of high school bowling. The Walled Lake Northern girls team won the state junior varsity team title. Jeff Kitchen of Waterford Mott won the state boys junior varsity individual title and Jessica Crunk of Highland Milford placed second in the state girls junior varsity individual competition.

 

March – Jessica Guertin of Highland Milford won the MHSAA State Division 1 Girls Singles title. Deloria Walker of Royal Oak Shrine won the Division 3 Girls Singles crown. White Lake Lakeland won the Division 1 Girls team title. The Spacecare Interiors team, bowling in the Thursday Men’s House League at Century Bowl in Waterford Township , shot a local and state record team game of 1,384. Members of the team were Rich Deatherage of Clarkston, Harold Hughes of Clarkston, Chris Simonson of Howell, Alan Pittman of Clarkston and Gary Banghart of Clarkston. The score turned out to be the second highest in the nation for the 2005-06 season.

 

April – Bill Haynes of Rochester Hills placed second in a National Senior Bowling Association event at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights . Rick Capaldi of Canton won the tournament. Scott Sinawi of Southfield won the Mid States Masters with Richard Planko of Novi placing second at Superbowl Lanes in Canton . John Nolen of Waterford Township won the Budweiser Michigan Majors at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth . Brandie Reamie of Livonia became the youngest girl to ever bowl a perfect 300 game when she accomplished the feat 23 at Country Lanes in Farmington Hills while competing in the Sunday Youth Classic Traveling League.

 

May – The Metro Detroit USBC Association officially began business on May 1 as a result of the merger of the Greater Detroit Bowling Association, Pontiac Women’s Bowling Association, Detroit Women’s Bowling Association and Greater Detroit Youth Association. The association office moved from St. Clair Shores to Lathrup Village . Doug Spicer of Novi won the Budweiser Michigan Majors at Nortel Lanes in Monroe .

 

June – The Greater Detroit Bowling Association announced the All-City teams with Waterford Township residents Thomas Tisdall, Travis Franz, John Nolen and Mike Busch earning spots on the regular team. John Bennett of Clarkston and Mitch Jabczenski of Novi gained spots on the senior team. Tamekia Bradford of Ferndale won All-City honors from the Detroit Women’s Bowling Association. Champions from the final Pontiac Women’s Bowling Association tournament included Ruth Turner of Highland, Kathryn Mystian of Holly, Rebecca Johns of Auburn Hills, Kassanrda Johns of Waterford Township, Kimberly Mystian of White Lake, Sally Holeman of White Lake, Deborah Busch of Waterford Township, Martha Slaughter of Rochester, Darlene Powell of Auburn Hills, Yvonne Moore of Pontiac, Shaun Damron of Waterford Township, Linda Raspberry of Pontiac, Anne Kutsoginis of White Lake, Heather Judge of White Lake, Melissa Sutton of Rochester Hills and Karen Craft of Ortonville. Rod Harling of Oak Park won the National Senior Bowling Association tournament at Troy Lanes. Doug Spicer of Novi finished second in the Budweiser Michigan Majors at Bel Mar II Lanes in Trenton .
