BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS

Matt Randall of Brownstown Township captured his first Budweiser Michigan Majors title at Candlelite Lanes in Bridgeport with a narrow 223-221 victory over Tom Smallwood of Saginaw .

Randall was the top qualifier for the stepladder finals and took home the top prize of $1,200.

Smallwood got to the finals by virtue of a 268-258 triumph over Ryan Wilson of Garden City. He received $600.

Wilson dispatched Terry Haines of Westland 258-226 and Randy Warnken of Clinton Township 243-192 in earlier matches.

Wilson cashed for $500, Warnken $400 and Haines $300.

Dale Hofmeister of Essexville and Trey Edwards of Oak Park each shot 300 games during qualifying.

Randall becomes eligible for the Tournament of Champions in December with his victory to which he exclaimed, “I was determined to bowl in all the tournaments this year and give myself a chance to win, now I can bowl in all the tournaments”. Only tournament champions are eligible for the Tournament of Champions.

Jeff Grego of Clarkston cashed for $120 and Edwards $100 as the Oakland County cashers.

USBC MASTERS

The Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) returns to television this Sunday with the United States Bowling Congress Masters Tournament. The telecast will be at 1 p.m. on ESPN.

During the telecast there will be a major announcement regarding Sport Bowling.

There are several local bowlers participating in the event including Justin Crosby of Holly, Kerry Kreft of Madison Heights and John Nolen of Waterford Township .
