MDUSBC Tournaments

The Metro Detroit USBC Association has scheduled several tournaments for the 2006-2007 season with something for every member.

The first event of the year will take place on Sunday, Oct. 15 at Hazel Park Bowl with the Adult/Youth tournament. The squad time available is 1 p.m. with a cost of $30 per doubles team. The youth bowlers are competing for scholarships. Team handicap is 100 percent from 420.

The MDUSBC Mixed Team event begins Saturday, Oct. 21 and runs for four weekends at Hazel Park Bowl. Teams are composed of two men and two women competing for a $2,000 first prize based on 300 teams for a low cost of $100 per team. Handicap is 90 percent from 920.

The Junior Masters will take place at Indian Lanes in Wyandotte on Saturday, Oct. 28. Open to youth bowlers only. This is a scratch event and a Junior Gold qualifier. The cost is $45. The format is six-game qualifier cutting to the top four girls and top five boys in a stepladder finals.

The Youth Team event will be Jan. 7, 14, 20 and 21, 2007 at Cloverlanes in Livonia . Handicap is 90 percent from 210 and there are four average-based divisions and a scratch division. The cost is $52 per four person team.

The Youth Singles and Doubles tournament will also be contested at Cloverlanes on Feb. 4, 10, 11 and 18, 2007. The cost is $13 for singles and $26 per doubles team. There is also a $5 entry fee for the graduating senior scholarship event. Handicap is 90 percent from 210 with a scratch division and four average-based divisions.

Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park will host the MDUSBC Masters with qualifying on Jan. 20-21 and match play on Jan. 27-28. This is a sport bowling event with a cost of $120. First place is $3,000 based on a full field of 160 entries.

Bowlers over the age of 50 can compete in the Senior Masters at Airway Lanes in Waterford Township . Qualifying will take place on Feb. 10-11 and match play on Feb. 17-18. The entry fee is $100. First place is $1,500 based on 120 entries.

For seniors 55 years of age and older the Senior Handicap Team tournament will take place March 3 and 10 at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights . For a low cost of $75 per team five person teams will compete for $800 first place prize based on 60 teams.

The MDUSBC Women’s Championships will be held at Shore Lanes in St. Clair Shores beginning March 24 through April 22 on weekends except for Easter weekend. Events include five-person team, doubles, singles and all-events. The cost is $20 per person per event. Handicap is 90 percent from 230.

Century Bowl in Waterford Township will host the MDUSBC Open Championship beginning March 24 through April 22 on weekends except for Easter weekend. Handicap is based on 90 percent from 230. The cost is $25 per person per event. The events are five-person team, doubles, singles and all-events.
