BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS

 

Nick Wissinger of Utica won the 18th Annual Budweiser Michigan Majors Tournament of Champions at Taylor Lanes in Taylor with a 248-239 triumph over Mason Brantley of Detroit .

 

Wissinger qualified fifth for the stepladder finals and proceeded to beat Chris Brady of Flint 227-222 and Jeff Roche of Dearborn 226-217 before tying Ray Eddy of Saginaw 258-258. In the two-frame rolloff Wissinger won 50-30 to advance to the championship match.

 

Wissinger took home the top prize check of $1,500.

 

Brantley settled for $850 after outdistancing the field in qualifying and the semi-finals.

 

Eddy chased for $600, Roche $500 and Brady $400.

 

The only Oakland County casher was Jeff Grego of Waterford Township for $160.

 

The next MMBA event will be Jan. 12 at Town and Country Lanes in Westland .

OLD TIMERS

 

The 77th Annual Old Timers Tournament was held recently at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park .

 

Gary Hanba, 54, of Hartland was the overall champion with a three-game series of 741 on games of 257, 205 and 279.

 

The 50-59 age group was won by Doug Evans of Brownstown with 740, followed by John Lingenfelter of Center Line 715 and Robert Slayden Jr. of Taylor 711.

 

Douglas Balint of Flat Rock paced the 60-64 age category with 740. Frank Kowalewski of Shelby Township (702) and Robert Royals of Ecorse (670) followed.

 

Topping the 65-69 bowlers was Anthony McCauley of Detroit with 710. Second and third were William Dewid of Warren (686) and Sam Lopiccolo of St. Clair Shores (681) respectively.

 

Tony Loiacano of Warren shot the top series among the 70-74 year olds with 707. Walter Mieczkowski of Detroit (676) and Pasquale Licavoli of Clinton Township (671) were next.

 

High among the 75-79 group was Scotty Laughland of Windsor with 694. Lloyd McNabb of Warren (673) and Bill Gronley of Mt. Clemens (640) followed.

 

Milton Patten of River Rouge shot the best score among the over 80 crowd with 725, followed by John Milligan of Wixom with 632 and George Albert of Madison Heights with 614.

 

The under 50 group was paced by Thomas Roberts of Melvindale and Mike Lotito of Macomb Township each bowling 729. Albert Zainea of Detroit was next with 720 and Garrett Nagle of Westland with 714.

 

Over 600 bowlers participated in the fun event including bowlers from as far away as San Diego , Calif.
