NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION

 

Rick Olson of Kalamazoo claimed the year end Holiday Classic tournament of the National Senior Bowling Association at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights with a 190-186 victory over Jim Burton of Novi .

 

Olson qualified 19th and proceeded to beat Bill Haynes of Rochester Hills 277-192, Jim Dechnik of Kalamazoo 215-167, Dave Eatmon of Ferndale 235-226 and Terry Bialkowski of Canada 222-200 en route to the championship match. Olson cashed for $1,600.

 

Burton qualified 13th and won matches against Ken Lang of Eastpointe 260-233, Jim Rock of Kalamazoo 209-193, Joe Buffa of Macomb Township 218-214 and Chuck Bork of Bay City 212-190 on his way to the finals. Burton took home the runner-up check for $850.

 

The high qualifier was Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield and Dick Selgo of Archbold , Ohio recorded the high game of 290.

 

Other Oakland County cashers were Dave Eatmon of Ferndale for $450, Mark Hatchigian of Novi $285, Ed Austreng of Waterford Township $160, Jerry Owczarski of South Lyon $160, Bill Haynes of Rochester Hills $160 and Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield $160.

MMBA AWARDS

 

Jeff Roche of Dearborn and Todd Sim of Belle River , Ontario have been names 2007 “Bowler” and “Rookie” of the year respectively by the Budweiser Michigan Majors Bowling Association.

 

Roche finished second in money earnings with $2,950, cashed in eight of the 11 tournaments, averaged 228, made the finals four times and won one title.

 

Sim led all rookies in average and money earned. He averaged 226 while taking home $1,500 for the year. His best finish was second place in the championship tournament in November.

BOWLING ON TV THIS WEEKEND

 

While the PBA takes a couple of weeks off there won’t be any live bowling action on television. ESPN Classic will air some classic bowling on Saturday and Sunday at 12 noon. Saturday’s telecast will be the 1994 Greater Detroit Open and Sunday will feature the show from this past Sunday in case you missed it. The next live PBA telecast will be Sunday, Jan. 6.
