MDUSBC QUEENS

 

Novella Daniels of Harper Woods won the Metro Detroit USBC Association Queens on Sunday with a 211-157 triumph over Stacey Sykes of Southfield at Beech Lanes in Redford .

 

Daniels qualified 11th with a four-game total of 835 on games of 233-185-245-172. In match play she defeated Christine Wissinger of Utica 235-169, Kate Featherstone of White Lake 223-179 and Crystal Trombley of St. Clair Shores 224-222 en route to the championship match.

 

Sykes was the top qualifier with a 993 on games of 255-258-247-233. She beat Kim Cox of Southfield 237-219, Karen Rushlow of Gibraltar 200-171 and Leena Childs of Detroit 256-235.

 

Daniels took home the top check of $1,000 plus a tiara pendent necklace compliments of Ahee Jewelers. Sykes settled for $500.

 

Other Oakland County cashers were Featherstone for $125, LaVern George of Waterford Township $100, Kim Cox $100 and Heather Judge of White Lake $50.

MDUSBC 500 CLUB

 

Lori Cichewicz of Commerce Township won the Metro Detroit USBC Association 500 Club Tournament at Bowl One Lanes in Troy with a handicap score of 775.

 

The 177 average Cichewicz shot games of 200, 226 and 220 for an actual series of 646. Coupled with 129 pins handicap she easily topped second place Kassandra Johns of Waterford Township by 41 pins. Cichewicz took home $170 for her victory, while Johns settled for $100.

 

Other casher were Katherine McGee of Pontiac (726, $80); Christine Wlodarczyk of Livonia (723, $75); Vickie Agnew of Metamora (713, $60); Ruth Turner of Highland (709, $50); Janet Cocking of Orion (705, $40); Jennifer Michaels of White Lake (699, $30); Stephanie Beatty of White Lake (699, $30); and Constance Fordyce of Oakland (696, $25).

 

Deborah Busch of Waterford Township shot the highest game of the event with 269.

CRUCHON MEMORIAL

 

Ken Charrette of St. Clair Shores and Len Cianciolo of Warren teamed up to win the 17th Annual Steve Cruchon Memorial Tournament at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights .

 

The Charrette-Cianciolo duo defeated the team of Don Braun of Warren and Trey Edwards of Oak Park 419-414 in a hotly contested match.

 

The Charrette-Cianciolo team qualified third in the field of 32 teams and beat Jim Strobl of Dearborn and George Roberts III of Clinton Township 436-425 to advance to the final match.

 

The Braun-Edwards team qualified first and easily beat Kevin Wojcik of Clinton Township and Greg Opalewski of Sterling Heights 430-373 en route to the championship match.

 

While the competition was spirited and the camaraderie was outstanding the real purpose of the event was to raise money for the Karmanos Cancer Institute and the International Bowling Hall of Fame and Museum.

 

Sixty-four bowlers participated, each bringing pledges and/or selling of raffle tickets in support.

 

Over $9,200 was raised to support the causes increasing the total raised in 17 years to over $234,000.

BOWLING ON TV THIS WEEKEND

 

The Lumber Liquidators Championship from Baltimore  will be telecast on ESPN Sunday at 8p.m. Please note new time. This will be an eight player format for the championship telecast for two hours during prime time.
