BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS

 

Mason Brantley of Detroit virtually lapped the field and won the Budweiser Michigan Majors tournament at Town N Country Lanes in Westland .

 

Brantley shot a six-game qualifying score of 1,590 on games of 279-279-300-196-267-269 to lead the field. His 1,590 is only nine pins short of the record held by Nick Wissinger of Utica . Brantley then went on the shatter the nine game record by adding games of 256, 269 and 300 for a 2,415 nine game total. This was an average of 268.3. The previous record of 2,354 was held by Chuck Morris of Redford .

 

He qualified first in the field for the stepladder finals. In the stepladder finals he defeated Brian Hatcher of Roseville 218-198 to capture his first MMBA title and the top check of $1,300. Hatcher settled for $600.

 

The stepladder finals began with Matt Mueller of Bay City beating Travis Franz of Waterford Township 235-232. Hatcher then defeated Mueller 241-202 and John Bennett of Clarkston 242-207 en route to the championship match.

 

Bennett cashed for $500, Mueller $400 and Franz $300.

 

The only other Oakland County casher was Paul Szumny of Commerce Township for $230.

CAN-AM BAKER DOUBLES

 

Ken Dismore Sr. and Ken Dismore Jr. of Melvindale teamed up to win the Can-Am Baker Doubles at Novi Bowl with a 204-157 triumph over Jay Lang of Sterling Heights and Chris Patterson of Macomb .

 

The Dismore team took home the top prize of $2,000 after entering match play as the 12th seed with an eight-game total of 1,723 and a high game of 238. In match play they shot games of 269, 239, 192, 268, 234 and 202 to advance to the championship match.

 

“This was our first tournament and I still can’t believe that we won,” said Dismore Sr. “I used to bowl in the Michigan Majors tournaments. But, I’m loving this tournament. My son begged me for months to bowl with him in this tournament. I’m glad I finally gave in.”

 

The Lang-Patterson duo settled for the runner-up check of $1,000. They qualified fourth with 1,770 and advanced with games of 227, 245, 185, 242, 214 and 224.

 

The only Oakland County kegler who cashed was Kevin Scott of Ferndale , who teamed with David Reaume of St. Clair Shores to share $120.
