MDUSBC AWARDED 2008 USBC YOUTH TOURNAMENTS

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) has been awarded the 2008 United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Youth events.

 

Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights will be the host center for the USBC Junior Gold Championships and will also host the Pepsi USBC Youth Championships. Century Bowl in Waterford Township and Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights will act as qualifying centers for the USBC Junior Gold Championships.

 

In the USBC Junior Gold Championships over 1,700 competitors will descend upon the Detroit area to bowl three sets of six games in qualifying in the three bowling centers over a four day period. After the 18 games of qualifying the field will be cut to the top players for additional rounds to determine the Junior Team USA team and scholarships.

 

In the Pepsi USBC Youth Championships bowlers will have qualified through their league, sectional and/or state rolloffs to advance to the national finals. In the national finales there are four divisions age 11 and under and 12 and over in boys and girls divisions. There will be approximately 200 athletes in town for this competition vying for scholarship dollars.

 

Other events in town include the USBC Youth Open Championship, which is open to any and all USBC Youth members. This is a handicap event and will be conducted at Skore Lanes in Taylor .

 

The Youth/Adult event and coaching opportunities will take place at Taylor Lanes in Taylor .

 

The Junior Gold will take place from July 5-11, 2008; Pepsi Youth Championships from July 14-16, 2008; and the Youth Open will be from July 7-15, 2008.

 

Detroit will also play host to the 2008 USBC Women’s Championships from April 10 – July 6, 2008. The tournament will be held at Superbowl Lanes in Canton . More to come in a future column.
