Jim Burton of Novi became the fourth bowler in the history of the National Senior Bowling Association to win back-to-back tournaments when he beat B.J. Galloway of Alpena 226-188 at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights .

 

Burton qualified second and defeated Len Kersten of Clarkston 245-201, Dennis Korkoske of East Lansing 221-183 and Mark Abele of Garden City 192-181 en route to the championship match and the first place check of $1,000.

 

Galloway qualified 13th. On his way to the finals he had wins over Bob Frink of Washington 226-213, Ed DeBlock of Canada 256-214, Ron Burgess of Plymouth 228-207 and Jim Magolan of Shelby Township 247-236. Galloway took home the runner-up check of $500.

 

Ed Austreng of Waterford Township was the top qualifier and Jim Sherlock of Allen Park recorded the top game of 279.

 

Other Oakland County senior keglers to cash were Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield for $150, Kersten $120, Austreng $120 and Joe Fitzsimmons of Waterford Township $120.

 

The next NSBA tournament will be Nov. 10 at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth .

MDUSBC JUNIOR MASTERS

 

Michael VanPeeren of Wyandotte prevailed in the boy’s division and Josephine Bashara of Livonia won the girl’s division of the Metro Detroit USBC Association Junior Masters at Mayflower Lanes in Redford .

 

VanPeeren defeated Jerome Penxa II of Romeo 192-179 to win the boy’s division and claim the top scholarship prize of $350 and a spot in the 2008 USBC Junior Gold tournament to be held in the Detroit area in July. Penxa won a $200 scholarship and also earned a Junior Gold spot.

 

Bashara beat Brandie Reamy of Livonia 210-169 to win the girl’s division. She won a $250 scholarship and a spot in the 2008 USBC Junior Gold tournament. Reamy settled for a $150 scholarship.

 

VanPeeren was the top qualifier among the boys with a six-game total of 1,257. Penxa was second with 1,210.

 

The boy’s stepladder finals began with Joshua Jablonski of Sterling Heights beating Jake Forhan of Rochester Hills 194-163. Erik Stanley of Sterling Heights then defeated Jablonski 178-159 before falling to Penxa 162-141. Stanley earned a $150 scholarship, Jablonski $125 and Forhan $100.

 

The girl’s stepladder finals kicked off with Bashara beating Kelly Anderson of Clarkston 178-163 and Kayla Blanchard of Livonia 180-163 en route to the finals. Blanchard earned a $125 scholarship and Anderson $100.

 

Two other girls earned scholarships including Jennifer Kiel of Livonia for $75 and Jenna Law of Milford for $50.

 

Seven other boys took home $50 scholarships. They were Daniel Jordan of Livonia , James Edwards of Detroit , Jeff Higbee of Lansing, James Koss of Brighton, Jeffrey Suma Jr. of Lake Orion , Jack Giraud III of Taylor and Kevin Campbell of Southgate .

 

Sponsor of the MDUSBC Junior Masters was Mayflower Lanes.

HALL OF FAME BANQUET TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE

 

Tickets for the Detroit Bowling Hall of Fame banquet are still available. The banquet is Sunday, Nov. 11 at Ukrainian Cultural Center , 26601 Ryan Rd. in Warren .

 

Virginia Austin of Detroit, Carol Davis of Lake Orion, Quintin Green of Dearborn Heights, George (Mike) Lee of Dearborn Heights, Alvin Harrison of Southfield and George Zainea of Grosse Pointe will be inducted.

 

Tickets are $40 and can be paid with MasterCard or VISA. Cocktails are at 4 p.m., dinner at 5 p.m. and presentations to follow.
