MDUSBC SUPER SENIOR MASTERS

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) will host the inaugural Super Senior Masters on Nov. 3-4 at Beech Lanes in Redford .

 

Any member of the MDUSBC who is at least 60 years of age as of Nov. 3 is eligible for the scratch event.

 

Qualifying will be contested on Nov. 3 with each bowler bowling a five-game qualifier. There will be two squads of qualifying.

 

Match play will be on Nov. 4 in a single-game double-elimination format.

 

A separate special event for non-qualifiers 70 years and older will be conducted on Nov. 4.

 

First place will pay $1,000 based on 64 entries with 16th place paying $100.

 

The entry fee cost is $100 per bowler. There are still several openings.

 

Some notable entrants already entered are 2005 Senior Masters champion Ed Austreng of Waterford Township; 1974, 1980 and 1981 Masters champion Dick Beattie of Dearborn; 1977 Masters and 2004 Senior Masters champion John Bennett of Clarkston; and 1996 and 2002 Senior Masters champion Harley Trumbull Jr. of New Boston .

 

The inaugural event is sponsored by Turbo 2-N-1 Grips and Eastown Printing.

BVL FUNDRAISER

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) will host a fundraiser in support of the Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights .

 

The cost is $20 for three games of no-tap includes pizza, door prizes and mystery games. There will be 50/50 drawings and silent auctions.

 

Businesses can get involved as lane sponsors as can leagues.

 

In the last year’s inaugural event over $2,650 was raised in the one-squad event.

 

BVL is a national nonprofit charitable organization which raises about $1 million annually to fund a variety of recreational equipment and therapeutic supplies for America ’s veterans.

CHARITY UPDATE

 

The final tally for the Chicks for Charities bowling event at Novi Bowl in Novi was $10,000. The proceeds were donated to the St. Joseph Breast Cancer Center in Ann Arbor . Over 200 bowlers participated in the event.

 

Event organizer Sheryl Kossick was very pleased with the turnout and the donation. “You learn a lot about the goodness of people and what things in life really matter.” said Kossick.

 

Plans are already in the works for next year’s bowling event.
