BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS BOWLING ASSOCIATION

Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights won his seventh Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 279-224 triumph over Brian Newcomb of Romulus at Galaxy Lanes in Grand Blanc.

Wyatt, a MMBA Hall of Famer, qualified fifth for the stepladder finals and beat George Juszczyk of Dearborn Heights 248-214, Chris Brady of Flint 216-215 and Bill Kazmierski of Pinconning 267-227 en route to the championship match. He took home the top prize of $1,000.

Newcomb was the top qualifier and took home $600. His six-game qualifying set of 1,562 included the only 300 game of the competition.

“What can you do, I made one mistake and he threw strikes.” said Newcomb. “We crossed lanes through the qualifying trading strikes so I knew what to expect.”

“I just turned the tables this time.” said champion Wyatt. “The last two times in the finals, I was beat with a 289 and 299 game. It felt good to be on the right side this time.”

The next MMBA event will be Sept. 20 at Royal Scot Lanes in Lansing .
