MDUSBC WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association Women’s Championship has competed two weekends of four with many local keglerettes on top of their divisions.

 

Leading the way in Division I team event and team actual is the Dynasty Team captained by JoAnn Jones of Detroit with a scratch total of 2,782 and handicap total of 3,500. Other members of the team are Theresa Marshall of Ypsilanti , Iris Worthington of West Bloomfield, Agnes Harris of Detroit and Kim Baldwin of Redford .

 

Division II team handicap leader with 3,529 is the Royal Clowns captained by Marcia Meisner of Royal Oak . She was joined by Diana Stefaniak of Macomb , Susan Lipka of Royal Oak , Laura Lane of Warren and George-Ann Howell of Taylor .

 

The Brew Crew, captained by Helen Ullman of Warren , paces the Division III team event with 3,662. Teammates include Lisa Roelfs of Commerce Township , Debra Ullman of Royal Oak, Laura Tamachaski of Clawson and Beatrice Phillips of Leonard.

 

Agnes Harris of Detroit and Ester Lacy of Detroit are tops in Division I Doubles with a handicap score of 1,501. Barbara Joslin of Sterling Heights and Betty Gonko of Rochester Hills lead Division II Doubles with 1,461 and Debra Ullman of Royal Oak and Helen Ullman of Warren are tops in Division III with 1,533. Phyllis Brand of Detroit and Donna Toutant of Warren hold the top spot in actual doubles with 1,235.

 

Division I Singles is paced by Patricia Cooper of Southfield with 792, AnnMarie Borowy of Macomb and Mary Tibbs of Detroit are tied for the lead in Division II with 787 and Noel Britton of Waterford Township is top in Division III with 788. Kamla Shefferly of St. Clair Shores holds down the top spot in actual singles with 678.

 

Donna Toutant, Debra Ullman and Maria O’Mara of Belleville pace their respective divisions in actual all-events with 1,859; 1,786 and 1,490.

 

Anne Stade of Sterling Heights leads Division I handicap all-events with 2,206, Debra Ullman in Division II with 2,320 and Helen Ullman in Division III with 2,227.

 

The MDUSBC Women’s Championship runs Saturdays and Sundays through March 16 at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights . There are still limited openings. Call Holly at (248) 443-2695 ext. 105  for more information.

DEADLINE EXTENDED

 

The deadline to enter the United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championship at Superbowl Lanes in Canton has been extended to March 21. This is a great opportunity for women bowlers to participate in a national event.

 

In case you didn’t know, the cost is only $30 per person per event and women bowlers are only competing against bowler of like ability. There are five average based divisions to include women bowlers of all averages.

 

The entry count has been lagging and your help is much needed to bolster the entry.

 

The last time Detroit hosted the Women’s Championships was 1953.
