BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS BOWLING ASSOCIATION

 

Mason Brantley of Detroit became the first two-time champion of 2008 with a convincing 289-184 triumph of Carleton Chambers of Detroit at Nortel Lanes in Monroe .

 

In winning his third career title Brantley qualified second for the stepladder finals and defeated Tom Smallwood of Saginaw 262-214 to advance to the finals. He took home the top prize of $1,000. He was the top qualifier with a six-game total of 1,471 and fell to second place during the semi-final round.

 

“Winning my first title was exciting, but to win two in one year is really special.” said Brantley. “It is always a strong field. The best bowlers in the State of Michigan participate in all Michigan Majors tournaments.”

 

Top seeded Chambers settled for $600.

 

Julie Hall of Richville and Nick Kokenos of St. Clair Shores recorded perfect 300 games during qualifying.

 

Earlier in the stepladder finals Smallwood beat Rory Kalanquin of Davison 264-246 and Brian Waliczek of Birch Run 279-191 before falling to Brantley.

 

Local bowlers who cashed were John Nolen of Waterford Township for $160 and Lee Snow of Wixom for $120.
