NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION

 

Dan Mayer of Waterford Township captured his first National Senior Bowling Association title with a narrow 258-257 win over Chuck Bork of Bay City at Taylor Lanes in Taylor .

 

Mayer qualified third. In match play he beat Jim Rock of Kalamazoo , Enrico Odorico of Clinton Township 234-212 and Mike Lucente of Warren 256-200 en route to the championship match. Mayer took home the top check of $1,000.

 

After qualifying eighth Bork defeated Jim Magolan of Shelby Township 245-205, top qualifier Larry Walker of Garden City 228-189 and Ralph Jennings of Detroit 249-169 in match play. Bork cashed for $500.

 

Top game in the event was recorded by Joe Buffa of Macomb Township with 289.

 

Other Oakland County cashers were Michael McCleskey of Southfield for $110, Roderick Bryant of Oak Park $110, Philip Horowitz of West Bloomfield $90 and Ed Austreng of Waterford Township $90.

 

The next NSBA Tournament will be Nov. 8 at Oak Lanes in Westland .

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS

 

Dave Tulak of Taylor broke a 19-year winless streak in the Budweiser Michigan Majors with a 224-200 triumph over George Jurzczyk of Dearborn Heights at Bay Lanes in Bay City .

 

Tulak was the top qualifier with a six-game total of 1,565. In the semi-finals he fell to second place for the stepladder finals. As a results he beat Matt Mueller of Bay City 236-201 to advance to the championship match. Tulak took home the top prize of $1,000.

 

“This title was a long time coming,” said Tulak. “This feels so good; I thought I wasn’t going to win again.”

 

The top seed for the stepladder finals Jurzczyk cashed for $500.

 

Mueller qualified fifth for the stepladder finals and dispatched Bill Kazmierski of Pinconning 247-232 and Brian Waliczek of Birch Run 234-213 before falling to Tulak.

 

The next MMBA event will be the Championship Tournament on Nov. 15 at Cherry Hill Lanes in Dearborn Heights .
