MDUSBC SENIOR QUEENS

 

Sue Labiak of Utica won the Metro Detroit USBC Association Senior Queens on Saturday with a 195-167 triumph over Debra Dickerson of Detroit at Cherry Hill Lanes in Dearborn Heights .

 

Labiak was the top qualifier for the stepladder finals with a four-game total of 984 on games of 235-234-225-290. Labiak took home the top prize of $160.

 

Dickerson qualified fourth with 880. In the stepladder finals she defeated Gwendolyn Finley of Detroit 222-192 and Vera Johnson of Detroit 236-210 to advance to the championship match. Dickerson settled for $120.

 

This was the second year of the MDUSBC Senior Queens. Initial qualifying was done by senior women 50 years of age and older with their actual all-events of the recently completed MDUSBC Women’s Championship. The top 12 advanced to the qualifying finals.

 

Other cashers were Johnson who took home $100, Finley $80, Carol Roberts of Ferndale $60, Jeanesta Fossett of Livonia $50, Rebecca Duffey of Brownstown $50, Valorie Dunlap of Rochester Hills $50, Suzanne Hyvonen of St. Clair Shores $50, Patti Bryans of Warren $50 and Leona Obuchowski of Ferndale $50.

 

The MDUSBC Senior Queens Tournament is operated by the Metro Detroit USBC Association which serves nearly 70,000 adult and youth bowlers in the Metropolitan Detroit market and is the largest local association of the United States Bowling Congress.

LAST CHANCE TO COMPETE

 

This weekend is the final weekend of competition in the Metro Detroit USBC Association Open Championship at Bowl One Lanes in Troy . There are limited openings on some of the squads. Squad times are 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

BOWLING ON TV

 

The PBA King of Bowling series will begin next Wednesday, April 22 at 9 p.m. on ESPN2 and continue each Wednesday at 9 p.m. for five weeks.

 

Wes Malott will begin the series as the “King” and face challengers. The challengers include John Nolen of Waterford Township as one of the top 10 players in the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour Play of the Year points race plus one wildcard.

 

Others include Norm Duke, Clermont, Fla.; Chris Barnes, Double Oak, Texas; Mike Scroggins, Amarillo, Texas; Patrick Allen, Wesley Chapel, Fla.; Walter Ray Williams Jr., Ocala, Fla.; Bill O’Neill, Southampton, Penn.; Rhino Page, Topeka, Kan.; Brad Angelo, Lockport, N.Y. plus “wild card” player Parker Bohn III, Jackson, N.J.
