BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS BOWLING ASSOCIATION

Randy Warnken of Clinton Township won the Budweiser Michigan Majors Match Game Championship in the best three-out-of-five championship format over Ed Danner of Otter Lake at Parkway Lanes in Trenton .

Warnken, winner of the first MMBA tournament of the year, defeated 2008 Rookie of the Year Julie Hall of Richville 227-194 and 219-218 in the best two-out-of-three preliminary format; Dean Cardella Portage 279-230, 247-248 and 270-257; and Mike Norris Jr. of Livonia 257-238, 236-245 and 247-185 to advance to the championship match. In the championship match he beat Danner 289-216, 218-268, 259-213, 214-224 and 259-184 to claim the title, his third MMBA crown. Warnken took home the top prize of $1,500.

“It hasn’t sunk in yet, I’m still calming down.” said Warnken. “This is such a hard grind going against the best bowlers in the state and Danner has been on a roll. I have never done well before in the Match Game Championship, therefore it is such a thrill to win.”

Danner, seeking his second consecutive win, came up short against Warnken and earned the runner-up prize of $800. To advance to the championship match Danner beat Bob Chamberlain Jr. of Holly 215-214, 195-199 and 258-228; Rick Gregor of Sterling Heights 248-236 and 237-217; and Robert Schulz of Oxford 258-203 and 246-205.
