OLD TIMERS

 

Over 550 bowlers descended on Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park recently to renew acquaintances and do a little bowling and once the day ended 67-year-old Leonard Cianciolo of Warren emerged as the 79th Annual Old Timers champion with a 743 series.

 

Cianciolo recorded games of 267, 218 and 258 to secure the title.

 

In the under 50 category Garret Nagle of Westland was tops with 724, followed by Ernie Segura Jr. of Taylor with 710 and Brian Snapke of Westland 691.

 

Mark Cassise of Dearborn Heights paced the 50-59 age group with 731. Second and third were Dominic Misuraca of Warren (731) and Dave Eatmon of Ferndale (730) respectively.

 

In the 60-64 division John Lingenfelter of Center Line shot 731 to lead, followed by Eugene Szweda of Southgate with 698, William Adamcheski of Taylor 690 and Charlie Cassise of Taylor 690.

 

James Robinson Jr. of Detroit was tops in the 65-69 category with 714. Joseph Sytniak of Dearborn had 702 and Gary Auederheide of Allen Park 670 to finish second and third.

 

Roseville ’s Bob Nelson paced the 70-74 age group with 735, followed by Philip Horowitz of West Bloomfield with 720 and William Swain of Westland with 660.

 

In the 75-79 group, Bob Arnold of Clinton Township won with 697. Bill Gronley of Mt. Clemens with 682 and Ernest Segura Sr. of Brownstown with 682.

 

In the 80 and over group, Jack Dahlstrom of Redford was the winner with 669. Milton Patten of River Rouge had 654 and Jerry Cole of Taylor with 599 finished second and third.

 

For those men at least 40 years of age and bowling for at least 25 years mark your calendar for the 2010 edition on Saturday, Nov. 27 and plan to be there.

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS

 

Troy Stus of South Lyon won a record third Budweiser Michigan Majors Tournament of Champions with a 278-229 victory over top seeded Dale Hofmeister of Essexville at Taylor Lanes in Taylor.

 

Stus, who last bowled in the Michigan Majors in 2000, qualified fifth for the stepladder finals and proceeded to beat Chris Kliczinski of Pinckney 266-187, Mason Brantley of Detroit 299-288 and Harry Sullins of Chesterfield Township 218-215 to advance to the championship match.

 

Stus took home the top prize of $1,300, while Hofmeister settled for $650. Sullins cashed for $550, Brantley $450 and Kliczinski $400.

 

“This is just fantastic,” said Stus. “I know I carried a few lucky strikes, but I also made some clutch strikes which made me very happy. I didn’t own a bowling ball until three months ago when I decided to start bowling again.”

 

The other Oakland County kegler who cashed was Ken Kossick of Commerce Township for $200.

 

Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights was named 2009 Bowler of the Year and Abed Daher of Brownstown as Rookie of the Year.

 

The next MMBA event will be Jan. 9 at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park .

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION

 

Steve Sears of Michigan City beat Ernie Segura Sr. of Southgate 265-259 in the highest scoring finals in National Senior Bowling Association history at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth to capture the Holiday Tournament and the top prize of $1,300. Segura Sr. settled for $800.

 

Sears qualified ninth and moved to the final match after victories over Bill Haynes of Rochester Hills 223-203, Tony Stipcak of Redford 245-202, Dick Selgo of Archbold , Ohio 259-218 and Terry Kandes of New Boston 247-208.

 

Segura Sr. qualified sixth and beat Rick Capaldi of Canton 289-254, Jim Richardson of Toledo 214-183, Maurice Currie of Southfield 235-221 and Dave Forfitt of Canada 200-183 en route to the finals.

 

Oakland County was well represented at the cash window. Cashers were Maurice Currie of Southfield for $400, Phil Horowitz $400, Mark Hatchigian of Novi $300, Jerry Owczarski of South Lyon $300, Kevin Scott of Ferndale $200, Mike McCleskey of Southfield $200, Ed Austreng of Waterford Township $200, Bill Haynes of Rochester Hills $200, Dave Eatmon of Ferndale $200 and Joe Fitzsimmons of Waterford Township $200.

 

The next NSBA event will be Jan. 2 at Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights .
