MDUSBC SENIOR MASTERS

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association Senior Masters tournament qualifying and first rounds of match play wrapped up at Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills Sunday, Feb. 8.

 

Dwayne Griggs of Orion, Paul Hutchinson of Dearborn , David Maiorana Sr. of Rochester Hills and Larry Walker of Garden City remained undefeated in the double elimination format.

 

Griggs qualified third with a six-game total of 1,337. In match play he remained undefeated with wins over Doug Evans of Clinton Township 518-390, Rick Eiermann of Garden City 421-394 and Daniel Mayer Jr. of Waterford Township 414-376 in the two-game matches in the double elimination format.

 

Hutchinson qualified 28th with 1,247 and beat Richard Kotovich of Chesterfield 392-369, Steven Hubble of Westland 385-381 and Richard Beattie of Dearborn 44-394.

 

Maiorana stayed alive with victories over Lee Snow of Wixom 404-356, Leonard Cianciolo of Warren 403-346 and top qualifier Donald Clifford of Clinton Township 390-384. He qualified eighth with 1,295.

 

Walker beat Sam Girgenti of St. Clair Shores 411-389, Philip Horowitz of West Bloomfield 452-385 and Ed Austreng of Waterford Township 433-393 after qualifying 18th with 1,264.

 

Alive in the loser’s bracket are Michael LaRocca of New Hudson, Albert Amella III of Macomb, Anthony Dadeppo of Troy and Doug Evans.

 

Top qualifier Clifford bowled 1,349 on games of 213, 245, 204 171, 280 and 236.

 

In match play Doug Evans recorded a 300 game.

 

The 153-player field averaged 191.6, with the top 32 finalists averaging 219.

 

The final rounds of match play begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Classic Lanes.
