BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS

 

Craig Nidiffer of Trenton won his first Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 219-199 over newly elected Hall of Famer Chris Marshall of Lansing at Royal Scot Lanes in Lansing .

 

Nidiffer qualified second for the stepladder finals and advanced to the championship match with a 212-193 triumph over Rory Kalanquin of Davison. Nidiffer took home the top prize of $1,000.

 

“This just feels great,” said Nidiffer. “I wanted to win a Michigan Majors title so bad.”

 

Marshall was the top seed for the stepladder finals after leading the second place Nidiffer by 116 pins on a tough lane condition. Marshall averaged 231 in qualifying but fell short in the finals and settled  for $600.

 

Kalanquin began the stepladder finals with a 190-174 win over Mitch Jabczenski of Novi and a 200-189 triumph over Bob Chamberlain Jr. of Holly.

 

Kalanquin cashed for $500, Chamberlain $400 and Jabczenski $300.

 

The only other local casher was Jeff Grego of Waterford Township for $230.

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION

 

Dave Tulak of Taylor won the National Senior Bowling Association tournament at Oak Lanes in Westland with a 259-174 victory over Larry Franz of Redford .

 

Tulak qualified seventh and proceeded to beat Steve Sears of Michigan Center 184-152, Dick Selgo of Archbold , Ohio 228-212 and Tim Magyar of Redford 237-191 en route to the final match. Tulak took home the top prize check of $1,000.

 

Franz qualified fifth. On his way to the championship match he beat John Ciantar of Monroe 206-178, Rich Schultz of Warren 238-177 and Larry Walker of Garden City 206-203. He settled for $500.

 

Walker was the top qualifier and Schultz recorded the top game of 300.

 

Local seniors who cashed were Jerry Owczarski of South Lyon for $150, Jim Burton of Novi $150, Mike McCleskey of Southfield $100, Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield $100 and Ken Kossick of Commerce Township $100.
