BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS BOWLING ASSOCIATION

 

Randy Warnken of Clinton Township won his fourth Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 279-194 victory over top-seeded Jeff Roche of Dearborn at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth .

 

Warnken qualified second for the stepladder finals and beat Dave Tulak of Taylor 225-179 to advance to the championship match. Warnken cashed for $1,000.

 

Roche led qualifying with a nine-game total of $2,307 and settled for $600.

 

“This was pay back,” said Warnken. “Jeff had defeated me four straight times. The last time earlier this year at Thunderbowl when I was the leading qualifier.”

 

“This happens I guess, I just couldn’t carry like I did in the qualifying rounds.” said the dejected Roche.

 

Earlier in the stepladder finals Trey Raynes of Wayne beat Ken Ulicny of Swartz Creek 300-159 before falling to Tulak 258-257.

 

Tulak cashed for $500, Raynes $400 and Ulicny $300.

 

The only Oakland County casher was Dan Kelsey of Novi for $110.

KIDS BOWL FREE AGAIN

 

Once again this summer a promotion dubbed “Kids Bowl Free” will be available a local participating bowling centers.

 

Under the promotion participating bowling centers are giving away two free games of bowling each day, as an opportunity for kids and families to enjoy bowling during the summer months. Along with the free bowling for the kids a family pass is available for purchase.

 

There are 12 Oakland County bowling centers participating at this point. More may join as the summer nears.

 

The participating centers are Hartfield Lanes in Berkley; Country Lanes in Farmington; Fairlanes Bowl in Madison Heights; Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills; Pinz Bowling Center in South Lyon; Plum Hollow Lanes in Southfield; Bowl One Lanes, Thunderbird Lanes and Troy Lanes in Troy; and Airway Lanes, Century Bowl and Waterford Lanes in Waterford Township.

 

Kids must be signed up by a parent.

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION

 

Dave Tulak of Taylor won the National Senior Bowling Association event held at Westland Bowl in Westland with a 233-227 victory over Joe Buffa of Macomb .

 

Tulak took home the top prize of $1,000 after qualifying 10th and beating John Pretari of Flat Rock 267-201, James Millen Jr. of Redford 227-214 and Jim Rock of Kalamazoo 236-179 to advance to the championship match.

 

Buffa qualified 12th and proceeded with wins over Jeff Lisinski of Wauseon , Ohio 222-167, Robert Michaux Jr. of Detroit 214-189, Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield 278-223 and top qualifier Terry Bialkowski of Canada 208-188. Buffa settled for the runner-up check of $500.

 

Ed Austreng of Waterford Township , Larry Franz of Redford and Jim Rock had high game honors with 279.

 

Oakland County cashers were Horowitz for $150, Mike McCleskey of Southfield $150, Austreng $110, Mark Hatchigian of Novi $100 and Ken Kossick of Commerce Township $70.

 

The next NSBA event will be May 8 at Superbowl Lanes in Canton .
